It is the actions and technological productions of one species -- the human being -- that are bringing about the biosphere meltdown. Increasing numbers of people have come to the conclusion that it is in the hearts and minds of human beings that the causes and cures of the ecocatastrophe are to be found. |

by Harman Harkema. We have gathered here at the Ocean to learn of special powers. The Atlantic Ocean is possibly the most powerful mystic place in the world. So we have come here to bathe ourselves in this mystic, Oceanic force. We play the drums on our boats and beaches, our bodies responding to the beat, the heat, in trance we dance, a heart in blossom, a kiss to the bosom of the Ocean. We can sail on this water, no house can be built here, no monument erected in memory, the experience must be as we grow, we live in the moment sensed in the heart. Sensing The Power. The wind roaring by our ears sets up primordial vibrations, we can taste the voice of the creator as his infinite wisdom merges with the sounds of the wind. The waves in ever different frequencies, cradle us in motion, we are here, subject to the power, the infinite power of the Atlantic. |

The planet earth is in peril as never before. The ecological crisis is a symptom of the spiritual crisis of the human being. The crisis is global. It transcends all national, religious, cultural, social, political, and economic boundaries. The responsibility of each human being today is to choose between the forces of darkness and the force of light. |

by Carolyn E. Cobelo, MSW. Sacred space is a place where we honor the divine in its material form. The dimensions of a sacred space vary. It can occupy anything from the corner of a room to an altar, a Gothic cathedral, a mountain, the ocean, the planets, the solar system, the universe, or beyond. |

RPHP, a nonprofit organization, is conducting a national study of the levels of radioactive strontium-90 (Sr-90) in baby teeth to determine how much radioactivity is entering our bones. This information is crucial for determining whether nuclear power plants and weapons facilities are affecting our health and contributing to America's cancer epidemic. |

We play our loud music, engage in all sorts of play designed through technology simply to distract us from participating in life. Hordes of sexual images are used not only to make us desirous of commercial products but also to keep us from harnessing that energy for spiritual use. Is music bad? No. Is play bad? No. Is sex bad? No. These pursuits are injurious when we participate in them without a sense of compassion. |

The levels of consciousness...we are now going through as a nation. The first is a shocked numbness, the next rage and anger, and this followed by a great sorrow that seems so unbearable that sometimes people stay locked in the rage/anger stage in order to avoid the sorrow that seems so desolate and overwhelming. |

Each and every moment we are given the wonderful gift of free will to make choices. These choices can be as simple as choosing what to wear or what to eat. Personal choices rarely affect another person. Then there are intrapersonal choices, decisions that affect another person. These decisions not only have a profound effect on the other person they also deeply shape the person you are. Finally, there are choices that affect our planet. Choices like making wise environmental decisions. Choices like electing world leaders. These choices have long term ramifications and can shape our global experience. |

I've written a book about Bush's environmental record, but it's not so much about the environment as it is about an excess of corporate power and the corrosive impact of that on our democracy. And it's not about a Democrat attacking a Republican. I've been disciplined for 20 years as an environmental advocate about being non-partisan and bi-partisan in my approach to these issues. I don't think there's any such thing as Republican children or Democratic children. But you can't talk honestly about the environment today in any context without speaking critically about this president. This is the worst environmental president we've had in American history. |

During one of my classes, I read aloud a passage about how all the animals and beings of the natural world want humans to learn to reconnect and communicate with them so that we can work together to save the planet. I believe that other life forms are aware of what's happening on the earth and know that it is deadly serious. They are waiting for us to collaborate with them, and they do want us to reconnect and do something to stop the destruction. But humans are good at pretending that bad things aren't happening when they really are ? especially now, when we are confronted by such a vast number of seemingly insoluble problems. |

by Marie T. Russell Summer has gone... and Winter is arriving... yet Spring will return. The seasons pass in nature, as in our own lives. The winter of doubt and fear does pass away as we become aware that there is no one to blame for the dark times we went through -- not even ourselves. These are simply the processes of life, the changing seasons as it were. |
