BOOK REVIEW: Stupid White Men by Michael Moore. Publisher: HarperCollins Reviewed by bobby jennings As with most things in life there are two sides to most stories. The patriotic fervor now encompassing the US has all but silenced the "friendly" or "otherwise" opposition. "The rest of the story" can be found in "Stupid White Men". In the spirit of Howard Zinn’s "People’s History of the United States", Moore has presented the opposition’s view of current events that will become the history of our time with humor, insight, and the quirkiness we have come to expect from "Michael Moore". Chapter 1 of Moore’s new book alone is reason enough to pick it up read it. I was aware of most of the facts regarding the election 2000 debacle in Florida and Moore has captured the facts, spirit, and shame of one of the darker moments in the history of voting rights in America. While reports of voter fraud has been perceived by the political right as a democratic poor loser whine, the facts should send shivers up the spine of true American patriots of every flavor and persuasion who believe that one man one vote is the cornerstone of American style democracy. If you were not really up on the facts regarding the Florida election results then Moore’s account my very well turn your stomach. Stupid White Men also covers a bit on health care, prisons, race relations, and foreign affairs. If you believe that there is more to quality of life than Gross National Product or a mighty military then the chapter on where America stands with the rest of the world will be of particular interest to you. I found the book an easy read and without the dryness that most books on this subject contain. The book has been criticized by some as of lacking creditability for its lack of original facts, but herein lies the uniqueness. It relies on the published facts and accounts from many of leading journals and newspapers and serves as an excellent recap of our times. "Stupid White Men" is a must read for people who want to know both sides of the story before they make up their mind on issues. This book has been in short supply and reached #1 on Amazon nearly overnight. So, even diehard Right Wingers must be reading this book. (In a brown paper dust cover of course.)
