BOOK REVIEW: Architects of Peace by Michael Collopy New World Library, Novato, California, USA Reviewed by Marie T. Russell This book is one of a kind! It is beautiful not only because of the wonderful pictures featured by portrait photographer Michael Collopy, but it is beautiful mostly because of the messages shared by the many "architects of peace" who are featured in its pages. We hear from Nelson Mandela, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Jimmy Carter, Mother Teresa, Coretta Scott King... all of these names one expects to hear when speaking of the "architects of peace"... but we also hear from Carlos Santana, Robert Redford, Harry Belafonte, Jean-Michel Cousteau (son of the famous ocean explorer, Jacques Cousteau), Ida Jackson (the first certified African-American high school teacher in California), Jane Goodall (known for her work with chimpanzees), Joan Baez, and many more. These 75 men and women share messages from their heart... about peace, about humanity, about love, about hope for the future of planet earth and its "residents" -- about each and every one of us. Reading this book is an inspiration and a re-affirmation of the power we have in making a difference. This is a book to have nearby, so you can read a page or two at a time... or sit down on an evening or weekend and read and read and read. Michael Collopy is an exceptional photographer who manages to catch the "realness" of his subjects... they look at us and we feel as if we see within their souls. It is inspiring to look into the eyes of these peacemakers, and see the peace and the love radiating. This book is a wonderful gift to offer yourself or a friend. While it is categorized as a "coffee-table" book, it is much more than that. It shares inspiration, wisdom, and hope for the future... something that we all need to feel and express in our day to day lives. I highly recommend this book... Just flipping through its pages, you feel the energy, the power... And it helps us realize that we all can be -- and we are -- architects of peace!
